Dan climbed Mt Fuji over the 4th of July weekend.
I had to locate a pic of Fuji online since the day he climbed it, it was cloudy and raining.
Dan and his buddies started their climb at the base of the mountain, which not many people do. Most everyone will take a bus halfway up the mountain to the 5th station and climb from there.
But not these guys! They were determined to climb the WHOLE thing!
They started out with some beautiful wide green trails that quickly turned into narrow volcanic rocky terrain.
When climbing Mt. Fuji, you can buy a walking stick and have it stamped at each station you pass. It's a one of a kind souvenir that represents your Fuji accent. Since the guys started at the bottom, they got several stamps that most people don't have.
Dan took his Guide On & Staff with him up the mountain. He lashed his walking stick to the staff to make it a little easier to climb with. He not only got stamps on his walking stick, but on the staff as well.
Sunset from the 8th station.
There are a few "hotels" you can stay at up on the 8th station, so you can rest the night and get up early the next morning to see the sunrise from on top of Fuji.
The guys were kind of shocked to find that these "hotels" were really just a large room that offered bed rolls and a cup-o-noodles for dinner.
LOL
Sunrise on Fuji
You can buy cans of oxygen along the trails for the low, low price of 1500 Yen ($15)
The weather cleared up for a little bit. Just long enough to take a couple of breath takingly beautiful pictures.
They made it to the TOP!!!
Dan's Guide On, which he gets to keep when we leave, is the ONLY Guide On to have ever made it to the top of Mt Fuji!
Some of the neat stamps and a weird bug!
Time to head back down!
A map of the trails
They made it to the bottom in one piece. YAY!!
Climbing Up: 16 hour
Climbing Down: 8 hours
Mission Accomplished!!
There is an old - well known Japanese saying:
"A wise man will climb Mt Fuji once, but only a fool will climb Mt Fuji twice!"
LOL
