Cakes, Cakes and More CAKES

Have you ever wondered how many cakes you can make with:
4 cases of Cake mix
3 bottles of Oil
5 boxes of Ziploc bags
32 packages of Cake Pans
and 12 dozen Eggs
???

96 cakes to be exact!
It took me 14 hours of baking to complete this task.

I'm not making another cake for the rest of the year - LOL

Gundams

We came across these this weekend. They're called Gundams. It's kind of like Japanese Transformers. Danny thought they were pretty cool. So we just pulled up to some strangers house and got out and took pictures in their yard. LOL

Dan's Birthday

Dan's birthday was a low key event. We gave him presents in the morning, a relaxing day of doing nothing, and a family BBQ in the evening.

For dessert I made him his favorite: Apple Cream Cheese Cake

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!!!

Nico Cakes

After church we decided to take a little drive over to this cute little bakery that has Dan's favorite Japanese treats.

It's beautiful and green here.

We're not sure what these are called but, they are a soft bread, with a light crispy outside and custard on the inside. They are amazing!!

Introducing - Olly

Olly is a Rhino Beetle. And Danny's new pet.

They're big ugly bugs and are common to this area. They can lift up to 850 times it's own weight. They are nocturnal, and they make a chirping sound. And they have a short life span, so this guy will probably only last the summer.

Danny really likes his beetle buddy. Sydney does not!!

Eggs

We have started buying our eggs from the vending machine. They are fresher, cheaper and larger than the eggs we normally get. The kids really like to go and pick out the eggs.

Kappa Sushi

After our trip to Hirosaki this weekend we stopped at Dan's favorite sushi place.

Some dishes travel around the restaurant on a conveyor belt. If you want it, just pick it up and put in on your table.

Other things you can order off a touch screen at your table.

It's then delivered right to your table my a tiny train.

The kids really enjoyed watching the food come out on the train. They were even really good about trying some sushi.

I really enjoyed the Fatty Salmon, Hamburger & Tempura Shrimp.

When you're done eating you press the call button on the touch screen and a waitress comes out to count the plates on your table. She then tally's it all up and give you your bill. There are 3 different colored plates - Red is 108 Yen, Yellow is 150 Yen and Blue is 210 Yen.
We were able to feed the whole family for 2400 Yen. An amazing deal!!

Cherry Blossoms

The Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom right now & they are BEAUTIFUL!!!

We decided to drive across Japan to the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival. It was a beautiful day and the trees were amazing!!

Sydney & Daddy in front of the Castle.

We found out the Castle is going to be take apart for renovations later this month and you won't be able to see it again for 10 years. So, we decided we needed to get back over there and see the Hirosaki Castle with the Cherry Blossoms before it's too late.

Tons of vendors selling all kinds of things to eat.

Giant Prawns.

Octopus tentacles on a stick.

I dared Dan to try this. Not knowing what it was and seeing everyone enjoying it, I thought we should try it.

.....deciding if it's good or not.

.....yea, it's pretty good!

SO, we all wanted to try. And was it good? NO! No, he's a big fat liar! Just said it to make us try it as well. YUCK!!!
It's called Oden, and it tastes fishy, but has the consistency of Jello. Nasty-ness!!

But we finished off the day with some VERY yummy Apple Ice Cream.
